BLACK ANGEL

preening sleek cobalt feathers

cool as a raven's wing she revealed herself
speaking in celestial tongue only mystics know

an angel black as soot vision beyond compare
flew in from the east by the tallest tower
to the garden's faerie tree

she promised to watch over the lost and forlorn
gently waiting in forgetful cities that never seem to slow

freely sharing a whispered heart-song
she moved through labyrinths of layered feeling

this angel black as soot sang to pole-stars
birthing suns swirling mists and granite stone

she warned of gathering omens massed birds
of feathery prophecy flying low in arrow formation

she sang the fall of a tiny dewdrop quivering shy
dropping to kiss the jagged hem
of bluebell's nodding skirt

she sang to the swollen papyrus moon
of cobwebs and spells she called enchantments

this angel black as soot unfurled a forest of feeling
ever so gently weeping tears soft
she awakened me
